The actor spoke about the fate of Banana in a pajama suit after being kidnapped by the Russian mafia | World news

Australian actor Kenneth Radley says the Russian mafia stole ABC’s iconic Bananas in the Pajamas costume and demanded a ransom to get it back. He revealed this information during an appearance on the Final Encore podcast and then in a subsequent interview with news.com.au.

Radley, who played one of the Bananas in Pajamas characters for more than a decade, said the incident happened when ABC marketing chief Graham Grassby took the suits on a promotional trip to places like the UK and US.

One of the tour stops was the Russian capital Moscow.

“Graham Grassby was head of marketing and franchising… and Graham traveled around the world with several banana suits to get photo opportunities in places like the Tower of London and the White House. He took the suits to Moscow… and the suits were stolen, and Grassby received a ransom demand of 100 thousand Australian dollars for the return of the suits,” Radley said.

What happened to the suits after the ransom demand?

According to the actor, the note was from the Russian mafia, and when this happened, Grassby contacted ABC Sydney. The ABC boss then asked him about the cost of making the new suits, which was A$20,000. Grassby was ordered to offer this amount to the mob. If they do not budge, new suits will be made.

Mr Grassby received A$20,000 wired from Sydney and went to meet the mob. According to Radley, he missed the meeting, abandoned the plan, and flew home with the money. So instead of returning the old suits, new ones were made.

“So the bananas are actually in some kind of Gulag in Russia, some kind of ice prison,” he joked.

Radley’s acting credits include Pirates of the Caribbean: Salazar’s Revenge, Rabbit fence And The Adventures of Priscilla and the Queen of the Desert in addition to his role in Bananas in pajamas.
