The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested CGST and EPFO ​​officials in separate graft cases. In Indore, a CGST Superintendent was caught receiving Rs. A $15,000 bribe to unlock an applicant’s input tax credit (ITC). Acting on the complaint, the CBI laid a trap and arrested the official and then conducted searches at the premises of the accused. In another case in Baddi, Himachal Pradesh, the CBI detained the Regional Provident Fund Commissioner, an enforcement officer from EPFO ​​and a private consultant for receiving Rs. A bribe of 10 thousand. It is reported that the bribe was demanded to satisfy the demand of the Provident Fund (PF) associated with the complainant’s firm with the threat of recovery of Rs. 45-50 lakhs if demand is not met. During the trap, the consultant was caught receiving Rs. 5 lakhs in cash and checks worth Rs. 5 lakhs on behalf of the officials. During a search at seven locations in Baddi, Solan, Shimla and Chandigarh, Rs. 23.5 lakh in cash and incriminating documents at the residence of the District Provident Fund Commissioner. All three accused were produced before the CBI court in Shimla. In both cases, investigations are ongoing to identify further details and accomplices.

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) today i.e. November 28, 2024 apprehended the accused Superintendent of CGST, Indore (MP) for demanding and accepting bribe of Rs. 15,000 rubles from the applicant.

On 28.11.2024, a case was registered by the CBI against the accused Superintendent, CGST, Indore (MP) on allegations that the accused Superintendent was demanding undue benefit of Rs.15,000/- from the complainant for unlocking/releasing GST input tax credit.

The CBI laid a trap and caught the accused CGST Superintendent in Indore while he was demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 15,000 from the complainant.

Searches are being carried out in the residential and business premises of the accused. The investigation is ongoing.

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested three accused, including the Regional Provident Fund Commissioner and an Enforcement Officer, both from EPFO, Baddi, Solan (HP) and a consultant (private individual) for demanding and accepting bribe of Rs. 10 lakhs (Rs. 5 lakhs in cash and cash worth Rs. 5 lakhs) from the applicant.

A case was registered by CBI on 24.11.2024 against two accused including Enforcement Officer (EO) of Employees Provident Fund (EPFO), Baddi, District. Solan (HP), Private Consultant, Buddy, Dist. Solan (HP) and other unknown EPFO ​​officials on allegations that the accused law enforcement officer had demanded undue benefit of Rs 10 lakh through the said accused private consultant for himself as well as other senior EPFO ​​officials in order to settle favorably a matter of PF demand from the petitioner’s firm which was pending at the EPFO ​​office, Baddi, Solan (HP). It was further contended that if the said demand is not met, the compensation would be Rs.45-50 lakhs.

The CBI laid a trap and caught the accused consultant (private individual) demanding and accepting Rs. 10 lakhs (Rs. 5 lakhs in cash and cash worth Rs. 5 lakhs) from the petitioner on behalf of the accused law enforcement officer and the Regional Provident Fund Commissioner, whose role came to light during the entrapment proceedings. All three accused have been arrested and are being produced before the L.D. Spl. CBI Case Judge, Shimla.

The CBI also conducted searches at the residential and business premises of the accused at seven locations in Baddi in Solan (KP), Shimla (KP) and Chandigarh. Cash amounting to Rs 23.5 lakh (approx) and incriminating documents were recovered from the premises of the Regional Provident Fund Commissioner in Chandigarh.

The investigation is ongoing.
